What is the use of UGC NET?

  • NET, which is a test to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for ‘Assistant Professor’ & ‘Junior Research Fellowship & Assistant Professor’ in Indian universities & colleges.

Who will conduct UGC NET?

  • The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct UGC – NET December 2023.
  • for ‘Junior Research Fellowship’ & eligibility for ‘Assistant Professor’ in 83 subjects in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode.

Eligibility for UGC NET? /Qualifications for UGC NET? / Qualifying Examination:-

  • General/Unreserved / OC/General-EWS candidates have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in PG / Master’s Degree or equivalent.
  • The OBC (NCL) / SC / ST / PwD /Third Gender category, who have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree or equivalent examination are eligible for this Test.
  • Candidates who are pursuing their PG / Master’s degree or equivalent course or candidates who have appeared for their qualifying Master’s degree (final year) examination & whose result are still awaited or
  • Candidates whose qualifying examinations have been delayed can also apply for this test.
  • They have passed their Master’s Degree with at least 55% marks  (50% marks in case of OBC-NCL/ SC / ST / PwD / Third gender candidates).
  • Candidates belonging to the Third gender category are eligible to draw the same relaxation in fee, age & Eligibility Criteria for NET (i.e. JRF & Assistant Professor) as are available to SC/ST/PwD categories.
  • The Ph.D. degree holders whose Master’s level examination have been completed by 19 September 1991 (irrespective of date of declaration of result) shall be eligible for a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks (i.e. from 55% to 50%) for appearing in NET.
  • The list of Post Graduation courses & their codes is given at Appendix.
  • Candidates are advised to appear in the subject of their Post – Graduation only. The candidates, whose Post Graduation subject is not covered in the list of NET subjects attached as Appendix, may appear in a related subject.

Age Limit for UGC NET / Age Relaxation for UGC NET:

  • JRF: Not more than 30 years as on 1st day of the month in which the examination is concluded.
  • Assistant Professor: There is no upper age limit in applying for UGC-NET for Assistant Professor.
  • Upper Age Relaxation for UGC NET:
  • OBC (NCL) = 05 years
  • SC/ST/PwD/etc = 05 years

UGC NET Online Application Fee;-

  • General/ Unreserved = Rs.1150/-
  • General-EWS/OBC-NCL = Rs. 600/-
  • SC/ST/PwD/TG= Rs. 325/-

Important Instructions for UGC NET Exam:

  • Candidates must strictly follow the instructions given in the Information Bulletin available on the NTA website.
  • Candidates must ensure that the e-mail address and Mobile Number provided in the Online Application
  • Form are their own or Parents/Guardians only as all information will be sentby NTA through e-mail on their e-mail address or SMS on the Mobile Number only.

Important Dates for UGC – NET 2023

  • Submission of Online Application Form = =30 September 2023 to 28 October 2023 (upto 05:00 P.M.)
  • Last date for submission of Exam fee = 29 October 2023 (upto 11:50 P.M.)
  • Correction in the Particulars in Online Application Form = 30 – 31 October 2023 (upto 11:50 P.M)
  • Announcement of City of Exam Centre = Last week of the November 2023
  • Download of UGC NET Admit Card from NTA Website = First week of the December 2023
  • Date of UGC NET Examination = 06 December 2023 to 22 December 2023
